Biography of crane

  • He was born in 1871.
  • He grew up in upstate New York.
  • He wanted to become a Baseball player.
  • 1893 He became a "Pioneer of Naturalism."
  • He produced, "War Is Kind," in 1899.

  • 1895, "The Red Badge of Courage."
  • It was told through the eyes of a young civil war soldier.
  • Covered the Greco-Turkish War in 1897.
  • He died of Tuberculosis at age 28 in 1900.

repetition

  • There are two repeating's in the poem.
  • 1. "Do not weep."
  • 2. "War is Kind."
  • They both form a sense of Sarcasm.
  • War is not kind, the speaker doesn't wanna see her daughter cry.

Imagery

  • "The affrighted steed ran on alone" (line 3)
  • Picturing a frightened horse running by itself.

theme

  • "WARFARE"
  • War is not very kind at all .
  • Many innocent people lose their lives.
  • It's all a never ending fight.

irony

  • "Do not weep, maiden , war is kind."
  • The way is horrifying and sad.
  • But, he says war is kind when it really isn't.

tone

  • The Tone is Sarcastic.
  • Throughout the story Crane says War Is Kind.
  • Men giving their lives to fight in the war is not kind.

speaker

  • The speaker seems to be maybe a mother.
  • "Don't weep, Maiden, for war is kind." 
  • It's like something a mother would. 
  • A mother talking to her daughter.
  • Telling her daughter everything is okay.
