PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE ISLAND OF BUCAI

LOCATION

  • Located in the British Virgin Islands.
  • Atlantic Ocean
  • 2.5 miles long
  • 3 miles wide

PEOPLE

  • The people that live in Bucai are called the Bucaines.
  • They live in a secluded portion of the island.
  • They have a monarchy government.
  • They have a chief that is decided according to his family line.
  • A person is chief from the age of 15 until death or resignation.

RELIGION

  • They worship the sun as their god.
  • On July 26, they celebrate Ray Day.
  • On Ray Day they have a tribal feast.
  • Traditional sun dances and songs are performed on this day.

JOBS

  • The men and women are assigned different jobs based on their skills.
  • Men- hunter, blacksmith, fisherman, carpenter, tailor, or lumberjacks
  • Women- baker, seamstress, weaver, tailor, or fisherman.
  • Both the men and women, if they are chosen, can work for the chief.

FOOD AND WATER

  • The children will go to a well that the man have dug to get water.
  • They have various sources of food such as...
  • Coconut trees, fish from the ocean, meat that the men hunt, and various types of fruits and nuts.
  • They also will drink coconut milk.

Trade

The Bucaines trade within the tribe, but they don't have contact with any other tribes or people that may also be living on the Island.

LAWS

  • At least one person in each household must have a job.
  • Must have a license to dance.
  • Reading is prohibited on weekdays and weekends.
  • You can absolutely never make sand castles
  • Nobody can get married on March 17th.
