Information Overload: Our students are balancing their old cultures norms with new expected behaviors. Classroom cultures differ around the world.

Even for Intermediate level ELLs, communicating is frustrating, confusing and embarrassing.

Learning to understand commonly used technolgies and being able to afford them can further alienate students.

If possible, learn a bit about your students' cultures. Do activities that encourage cultural exchanges in the classroom

Become aware of different learning styles and customs of the various cultures in your class. How are students expected to behave and perform in their home country?

Be patient and encouraging. Do not mistake silence for rudeness or lack of interest.
