• Only men over the age of 20 could become a Soldier.
• All regular soldiers were Roman citizens!
• Non Roman citizen were still able to fight for Rome as auxilaries.
• Roman legionaries were not allowed to get married.
• Auxilary- Providing additional support

• The training of Roman soldiers was incredibly organized and well drilled.
• They were trained to swim, build bridges, set up camp, and fight as a unit.
• Roman soldiers were famous for their discipline in battle!
• Some soldiers were specifically trained to fill certain roles such as archers.
• They always followed orders and knew that if they worked together they would be successful.

• They wore a metal helmet called a galea!
• The gladius sword was used by Roman soldiers in close combat!
• There armor was made up of iron and leather strips!
• Roman shields were curved so that they would fit around the soldiers body!
• Soldiers also carried a javelin or a throwing spear!

• The Roman Army could march up to 40 KM a day!
• The soldier who had command of the whole legion was known as a legate!
• Each Legion had a group of 120 horseman to be used as scouts and messangers!

• The soldiers signed up to fight for 20 years!
• They were divided into legions of 5400 soldiers! Thats a lot!
• The Romans used a pugio. (A.K.A, a dagger)
• The Romans used catapults to throw huge rocks which could knock down walls!
