COORDINATE = IDEAS; SUBORDINATE MINOR IDEAS

  • Two choices when combining two or more ideas
  • Coordination: indicates whether the idea is =
  • Subordination: incates that one idea is more important than the other

COORDINATION

  • Draws attention equally to 2 or more ideas
  • To coordinate single words or phrases join them
  • Join them with: cordinating conjuction or a pair or correlative conjunctions
  • Cordinating ind. clauses- FANBOY or a ; to a sentence with a complete thought
  • Ex:

SUBORDINATION

  • Gives unequal emphasis on 2 or more ideas
  • Express the major idea in an ind. clause first
  • Express the minor idea in a subordinate clause second.

EMPHASIZE KEY IDEAS

  • Each sentence emphasize your point
  • Express it in the subject and verb of an ind. clause
