WHO IS PIZARRO?

  • Pizarro was born in Spain around 1475.
  • Pizarro claimed lands for Spain.
  • He was very poor and never learned to read or write.
  • He wanted to be an ocean explorer and to sail the seas.
  • Father was a Captain in the army.
  • Died at 66.

WHAT DID PIZARRO DO?

  • Met people from the Inca tribe in Peru.
  • Inca wore beautiful items made of gold around their necks.
  • Inca Chief's name was Atahuopa.
  • Pizarro gathered an army and returned to their land to conquer it for Spain.
  • Stole their gold and riches and killed their Chief
  • Made the Inca's slaves too.
  • Claimed this land for Spain.

WHERE DID PIZARRO EXPLORE?

  • He explored South America.
  • His explorations took place in the Pacific Ocean and Peru.
  • Pizarro had a palace built in Lima

WHEN DID PIZARRO EXPLORE?

  • When he was young, he went on two explorations: one in 1509 to Columbia and in 1513 with Vasco de Balboa.
  • In the 1520s, he led two expeditions to South America because he heard the land was rich with gold.
  • Ruled Peru from 1532-1541.

WHY DID PIZARRO EXPLORE?

  • He wanted to claim more land for Spain.
  • The King of Spain ordered Pizarro to go back and get all the gold from the Inca tribe and he could be the ruler of this conquered land.

WHAT TOOLS DID PIZARRO USE?

  • He needed a ship on his expeditions, weapons, an army, a crew, food, navigation tools, a map and warm clothing
  • Pizarro's army were called the Spaniards.
  • He sailed with another famous explorer named Vasco de Balboa

HOW DID PIZARRO CHANGE THE WORLD?

  • He founded the present day country of Peru which is in South America
  • His explorations took place in the Pacific Ocean and Peru and now we know more about these two places
  • He also visited other countries in South America like present day Ecuador and Columbia
