Clause

A collection of words that has an active subject-verb relationship.

Independent Clause

A collection of words that can stand by themselves as a complete sentence.

Examples of Independent Clauses

  • The lime green frog sat silently atop the tulip.
  • The frog's feet stick to the flower.
  • The frog waits patiently for the fly to buzz past him.

Dependent Clauses

Dependent clauses can be thought of as incomplete thoughts.
