NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER
Definition:
NPD (Narcissistic personality disorder) is a mental disorder in which someone has an inflated sense of self importance. They feel a deep need for admiration and lack the capability of feeling for others. But still, have an easily shattered ego due to the slightest criticism.
NPD falls under the major category of personality disorders.
SYMPTOMS/TO BE DIAGNOSED MUST MEET AT LEAST 5 LF THE FOLLOWING.
- Unusually large sense of self importance
- Preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success
- Believes they are special or unique
- Demands excessive admiration from others
- Strong sense of enlightenment
- Exploitive of others
- Lacks empathy
- Lacks empathy for others
- Regularly shows arrogant haughty behaviors of attitude.
People with NPD are able to function properly in society. They can take care of themselves without a problem. Though, people with NPD are susceptive to dangerous coping mechanisms. Their disorder may also interfere with the development of healthy relationships with others.
TREATMENT.
- There is no cure for a narcissistic personality disorder. Psychotherapy of offered to give the person insight on their problems and behavior in hopes it will change their behavior.
