FUNCTION

  • Deposits oily secretion on hair
  • Produces sebum
  • Responsible for keeping skin and hair moisturized
  • Enlarge and produce more sebum under the influence of androgens
  • If sebaceous glands don't produce enough sebum the skin becomes dry

  • If glands produce too much sebum the skin is oily
  • If sebum gets trapped in the pours then acne can develop
