MARTHA WASHINGTON
She, like many other women, showed hospitality on the war grounds.
Cooked for the soldiers, did laundry, and helped out with sick/injured men.
She supported the Patriot side. (Obviously, her husband was the man in charge.)

JAMES FORTEN
Forten was 14 year-old privateer on the Royal Louis.
A privateer is someone who attacks the enemy's (Britain) merchant ships at sea.
He supported the Patriots and refused to cross over to Britain when given the opportunity.
James was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

JOHN PAUL JONES
This remarkable man was considered the naval hero of the war.
He contributed to the war by defeating the British several times at sea.
His bravery made the difference in his battles.
He was a patriot, and was born in the United Kingdom.

DEBORAH SAMPSON
Deborah dressed as a man in order to fight in the Continental Army.
Any other woman would have not took great risks like her.
This was important in the war because her fighting helped.
She fought for the colonists and was born in Plympton, Massachusetts.

BENEDICT ARNOLD
Arnold was an interesting man in the American Revolution.
He had at first fought for the colonists and made the British surrender at the Battles of Saratoga.
Then, influenced by his wife, a loyalist, he betrayed his fellow Americans and turned over the fort to the British.
Obviously, Arnold played for both teams here.
He was born in Norwich, Connecticut.

HENRY HAMILTION
This man was a British official that went up against George Rogers Clark.
His surrender helped out the Americans in the Revolutionary War.
Hamilton supported the British, and was born in Dublin, Ireland (probably.)

MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE
This French man was a remarkable figure in Washington's army.
Was praised and loved for sharing other men's hardships.
Given an army division and was a brave fighter.
Part of the Patriot side.
Lafayette was born in France.

WILLIAM HOWE
British commander against Washington.
Forced the Continental Army into harsh weather.
Howe fought for the British.
He was born in England.

JOHN BURGOYNE
British army officer involved in failed rendezvous in the war.
He was known for throwing obnoxious parties after victories of battles.
Burgoyne ended up surrendering to Washington because his plan was not executed properly.
He was a man for Britain, and he was born in Sutton, Bedfordshire, UK

THOMAS PAINE
A political activist that was a main part in the American Revolution.
Common Sense, one of his pamphlets, convinced the colonists that a break from Britain was necessary.
The American Crisis was written to encourage the men that were fighting for freedom.
His great pieces of writing made the difference of encouraging the Colonists for revolution.
Paine was strongly against Britain, and he was born in Thetford, Norfolk, UK.
