PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Ethical Situations: What would you do?

Krystin Clinton, Rachel Ibarra, Supun Randeniya, & Mitchell Stephens

Would you complete work you found morally unacceptable, or would you leave it undone and say nothing?

What do you do?

  • You are asked to work on a project you find morally wrong.
  • Important tasks are left undone because a co-worker spends more time
  • planning a social event than working on a proposal.
  • Your company is knowingly selling defective merchandise to customers.

Options #1: Morally Wrong Project

  • Quit your job
  • Talk to your boss
  • Work on the project anyway

Options #2: Co-Worker Issue

  • Tell your boss about your co-worker's behavior
  • Confront your co-worker
  • Say/do nothing
  • Do the tasks yourself

Options #3: Faulty Products

  • Quit your job
  • Warn the customers
  • Tell the media or boss

What happens if you do the "right" thing?

  • The company could change what it is doing
  • You could get fired or "let go"
  • Your boss could ignore the issue
  • The company could eventually be shut down

Manager Status

  • Can fire people
  • Have more say
  • Easier to be heard
  • More links to people higher in the company
  • Easier to find other employment

Ethical decisions are difficult to make, and sometimes there is no "right" or "wrong."

Think about your morals now, so in the future, you'll be better equipped to make ethical decisions.

If you made an immoral choice, could you live with your decision?

THE END.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
