WHAT IS BIPOLAR DISORDER ?

  • Bipolar disorder sometimes called manic depression is a medical illness
  • Causes extreme shifts in mood, energy, and functioning .
  • The changes may be subtle or dramatic .
  • Over ten million people in America has bipolar disorder .
  • It's a chronic and life long condition , also it can last days to months and often begins at a young age .

EPISODES

  • Manic episode -is when you feel at speed when not at all doing drugs .
  • Depressive episode - is when you feel worthless or hopeless , often thoughts of suicide .
  • Mix episode - is when when you feel both episodes on and of and often at the same time
  • Mix episode is the worst to experience in so cases .

SYMPTOMS

  • Easily distracted
  • Little need for sleep
  • Poor judgement
  • Poor temper control
  • Depression

SYMPTOMS

  • Very involved in activities
  • Eating problems - not eating or eating to much
  • Pulling way from activities that were once joined
  • Suicidal thoughts and actions
  • Irritable , anxious

RISK FACTORS, CAUSES , OR INCIDENTS

  • Child birth
  • Medicines - anti depressants, or steroids
  • Periods of not being able to sleep, insomnia
  • Recreational drug use

TREATMENTS

  • Therapy
  • Anti-depressants
  • Hospitalization
  • Lithium
  • Electro conclusive therapy

OTHER FACTS

  • Most children can not be treated until they mature for the medicine need for them
  • There are 3 types of bipolar .
  • In it most common with women
  • Can be passed down through genetics
  • Effects the family and friends around them
