EGYPTIAN GODS

• Oodles and oodles of them
• Important figures like Ra stood for items
• Ra- king of the sun, he was the king of the gods
• Chaos was Ra's archenemy
• He wanted to destroy the world

EGYPTIAN GODS IN DETAIL

• Horus- god of war and he had a falcon head
• Isis- Horus's sissy, she was the goddess of magic
• Isis had rainbow colored wings
• Ptah- the god of craftsmen and of opening
• Ra had three aspects, one for each of morning, noon, and night.

GREEK GODS

• Greeks believed strongly in their religion
• Offered blood sacrifices to gods
• Gods had domain of power and additional reigns
• Some gods included Ares, Zeus, and Posiedon
• Some goddesses included Athena and Artemis

GREEK GODS IN DETAIL

• Zeus was the god of the sky, the supreme being of all
• Poseidon was the brother of the big man, god of the sea
• Hades was the third of the big three and the god of the underworld
• Ares was the god of war, he was definitely a little violent
• Athena was the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy

ROMAN GODS

• Believed strongly in discipline and respect
• Same as Greek gods, however their personalities and names changed
• Zeus was Jupiter, Ares was Mars
• Posiedon was Neptune, Athena was Minerva
• Different names, same domain of power

ROMAN GODS IN DETAIL

• Mars was Ares in a different form
• Athena was known as Minerva, the goddess of wisdom
• Zeus=Jupiter, the lord of the sky
• Poseidon was Neptune, still god of the sea
• Hades was Pluto, the unlucky god of the underworld

SIMILARITIES

• King god had something to do with the sky
• Had many gods and goddesses
• All cultures had war god who was prayed to for victory
• Thought of as out of this world
• Prayed to gods daily

FUN FACTS....

• Earth is the only planet not named after a Roman god
• Athens was named after Athena
• Egyptian gods were banned by Akhenaton for years before they were allowed again

NOT SO FUN FACTS...

• Cronus of Greek mythology was cut to pieces by his son Zeus
• Ra was bit by a snake and forced to retire
• Vulcan was thrown off of Olympus as a baby for ugliness
