An adverb modifying a verb, implied to a word, describing how a certain action is done.

Jessica firmly took a stand.

She FIRMLY took a stand. Firmly is how she took the stand. So, firmly would be the adverb describing the verb.

Taylor delicately picked up her moms vase.

Delicately is describing picked, so delicately is the adverb describing the verb.
