EDGAR ALLEN POE

  • Born Jan, 1809 Boston Massachusetts
  • His father and mother were actors
  • His father ran away in 1812
  • Poe's mother died the following year
  • He was then fostered by mr.allan

EDGAR ALLAN POE

  • Inspired by the poet lord Byron
  • Often fought with his foster parent over money
  • Went to the university of Virginia
  • Dropped out of the university due to the cost
  • 1827 he published a pamphlet of poems

LATER ON....

  • He enrolled in the u.s army in 1827
  • Dropped out due to little money
  • Moved to Maryland with his aunt
  • In 1835 he became an editor in Richmond
  • Brought along his aunt and aunt's daughter ,virginia

SO ON....

  • Published the "fall of the house of usher"
  • 1836 he married his cousin,Virginia clem
  • He loved her very much
  • She dies later on from tuberculosis
  • He mourns her after her death

AFTER THE EXPIERIENCE......

  • After his wife's death he had published "the raven"
  • That was a success when it published
  • Wrote the "telltale heart"
  • Tried to live off of doing many short stories and poems alone

DEATH.....

  • Died oct 7 1849
  • He was found dead and wasn't wearing his own clothes
  • Said to be saying the words "Reynolds "
  • No one knew who he was referring to......
  • Last words were "lord recieve my poor soul"

TO GREAT WORK COMES GREAT INFLUENCE

  • Known as the "architect " of short stories
  • Wrote well known poems and short stories
  • Influenced other people to his style
  • Americas first important literature writer

ABOUT THE TELL TALE HEART

  • Was about a mad man committing murder to an old man
  • He killed him due to his vulture like eye
  • Proves his sanity by bragging of how he killed him
  • Police come and investigate
  • He hears a heart beat ....and tells them he killed the old man
