Blizzards are a type of snow storm that is very dangerous, with many deaths coming out of them every time they happen blizzards form when the air is cold with lots of moisture and warm air must rise above the cold air, this will create a snowstorm that when
at high speeds is classified as a blizzard. Blizzards can also happen when a cold front meets a warm front.

Blizzards can occur during winter when it is cold. They form near the upper west of the Great Plains, but also in most of the country except for the gulf coast or California coast.

HOW ARE THEY MEASURED?

  • They are measured in categories from 1-5 (1=weak, 5=strong)
  • They are detected with radars and satelites to track motion
  • There are different warnings given out for different strengths of storm

DAMAGE OF STORM

  • The storm is so strong it could take out your power right when it hits
  • 70% of accidents occur in cars, and the majority are males over 40 years old
  • Most accidents occur because of low visibility from snow

SAFETY

  • You can stay safe during a blizzard by not going outside
  • You can prepare by having food, water, flashlights, batteries, and candles
  • A watch means forecasters aren't sure of a full storm, but a warning is when they're sure

Blizzards are not very big threats to our state, because in the past, "blizzards" were only small snowstorms. This shows that blizzards aren't very dangerous to us.

It is important to study weather because if there ever will be a big blizzard and we don't know about it we will be prepared.
