Concept #1...

WebQuests

The first concept that I would like to talk about is something that we just covered in class... WebQuests. Why I want to discuss this is because of it's relevancy to our course currently.
Before this class, I had never heard of a WebQuest and after creating one, I can see why they could be a useful tool in the classroom; they are engaging and could add a fresh note to the class. But it was also very time consuming as the role of the teacher, so I may be wary as to when I would use them (at least until I developed my skills further).
It is something I will have to consider as a teacher! There were many ways to customize and make it unique and exciting, which I liked.

Concept #2...

Virtual field trips

The second concept that I want to discuss are virtual field trips. I think that this is a prime example of technology in the classroom and is another thing that I was previously unaware of.
This could be a great and thrifty way to expand upon a lesson (not many teachers can afford a field trip to Europe). Imagine learning about ancient Japan and then viewing the landscapes and historical locations from the textbook. This could very easily engage students and generate bounds of curiosity in the classroom.
I personally am excited just talking about it and would LOVE to be able to explore this tool because I could see myself using it in the future.
The list provided in the book itself is impressive and that is only the tip of the iceberg! (p. 141)

Concept #3...

Virtual schools

The final concept from chapter 6 that I would like to discuss are virtual schools. I have mixed feelings about this particular subject as I personally have had negative experiences and generally do not do well in online classrooms (I was very nervous to sign up for this course actually).
However, I can see the amazing possibilities of online courses. They could be a great solution for students with severe social anxiety or who otherwise could not attend a traditional school. And for some, it is great because they can go to school on their own time and terms (being able to complete their assignments at their own pace).
If I were to use this method of teaching, I feel that I would need to know the ins-and-outs of it or would otherwise avoid it.
