HEALTH ISSUES

  • Aids-
  • Possibly started as early as the 1960's.
  • Aids spread rapidly throughout the world.
  • Caused by a virus that destroys the immune system.
  • Also aids weakens the body.

ABORTION

  • Deliberate termination of a females pregnancy
  • Argued that it was murder
  • -Because its still a human life
  • Legal in U.S since 1973

DRUG ABUSE

  • Community thought drugs should be legalized
  • -To reduce power of gangs
  • "Just say no!"

EDUCATION

  • 23 million americans were unable to follow
  • -An instruction or fill out a job application
  • Commison recommended more
  • -Homework,longer school days and extended school year.
  • Choice of private,public, or religious

THE URBAN CRISIS

  • U.S became increasingly suburbanized
  • In 1992 , thousands were homeless
  • Poor people and racial minorities
  • -were often left in cities burdened
  • -by high unemployment rates.

Political Losses and Gains.
-After the 1992 election, the numbers of woman for positions were the highest ever.
-ERA never became a law

INEQUALITY

  • 57.8% of the nations woman were in the work force.
  • Woman only received 75 cents while men got a dollar.
  • 31% of female heads of households lived in poverty
  • Poverty for African Americans had a higher rate than anyone.
  • Woman were very poor.
