University of Greenwich, September 2015

What you'll learn and do...

Context, history and theory

Creative Industries (core): This unit establishes an overall context for the programme. We consider the creative industries in the UK and international context: What do creative industries produce? Who can be said to work in the creative industries? What assets and forms of property are generated by the creative industries? How is creative work funded and sustained economically?

Independent Research Project (option): This 15-credit unit allows you to develop an aspect of your research in preparation for the Major Project.

...for example

  • What do the creative industries produce?
  • What counts as "creative" work in different national contexts?

Research methods, techniques and tools

...for example

  • Qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, observation)
  • Digital research (buzz tracking, textual and visual content analysis)
  • Key theoretical concepts in communications.

Professional communications practice

...for example

  • In Digital Studio, all the coursework is based on a brief from an external client. The collaboration concludes with a pitch to the client.
  • Our Placement option enables students to link work, study and professional development.

Focus on digital, social media

...for example

  • Social media analytics, buzz tracking, research.
  • Content creation for social platforms.
