- Helps us to use our illness in service of Christ
- Given during sickness or immediately before death
- Gives the patient strength to overcome their sickness, or suffering
- Heals them both spiritually and physically

- Patient has a problem; sickness or injury
- Doctor discovers that source of pain
- Provides a medicine to heal patient
- Provides the specifics
- Comforts the patient on his/her condition

- Matter: Oil of the Sick, the medicine
- Form: "May The Lord who frees you from sin save you, and raise you up"
- Form: "Take this medicine once a day, and you will feel better"
- Celebration: both for those who are suffering, or death
- Communion: we are united in the ministry of serving others
