THEORIES of Emotion

  • James-Lange Theory
  • Cannon-Bard Theory
  • Two-Factor Theory

JAMES-lANGE tHEORY

  • Conscious experience of emotion 
  • Results perception of autonomic aurosal
  • Fear followed by response

Cannon-Bard Theory

  • Emotions originate in subcortical areas of the brains
  • Response as you experience fear

Two-factor Theory

  • In order to experience emotion you must:
  • Be physcially aroused
  • Cognitivly label arousal

Autonomic Nervous System

  • Controls internal organs
  • Ex. energy: liver pours sugar into blood
  • Ex. pupiles dialte to light
