THE FOOD EATEN

  • Unlike the myths the didnt eat pumpkin pies
  • They did eat regular whole cranberries though
  • The Native Americans killed 5 deer and offered it to them as a gift
  • During this time they ate what ever was available
  • There was venison in what they ate

THE PEOPLE

  • Unlike the myths there was colonist not pilgrims
  • They mostly didn't wear silver buckles on their shoes
  • An american author started to write recipes for pumpkin pies, and Mash Potatoes
  • The colonist were just like you and me, normal people
  • They had help with food, because they came at a time without a lot of food

THE MYTHS VS. REALITY

  • They didn't eat turkey
  • It lasted more than a day
  • They didn't eat cranberry Sauce
  • They didnt celebrate the holiday until 200 Years Later
  • And the colonist didn't wear black clothes, they actuallt wore bright clothes

SARA JOSEPHA HALE

  • You have her to thanks for all your favorite thanksgivng food
  • She is also known for writing Mary Had A Little Lamd
  • A pilgrims diary inspired her to start writing about thanks giving
  • She started a 30 year campaign for Thanksgiving to be a National Holiday
  • Most classic recipes like pumpkin pies and turkeys came from her.

MODERN THANKSGIVING

  • We now celebrate thanksgiving on the last week of November
  • We now eat pumpkin pie, turkey
  • We don't eat real cranberries, just the sauce and relish
  • We now eat stuffing and other things
  • Some of the things we think you can't have thanksgiving without it but the pilgrims did
