SAHARA DESERT

  • Arabic for the "Great desert".
  • Covers most of North Africa.
  • Sahara is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The sahara reaches the Mediterranean Sea.

ATLAS MOUNTAINS

  • Stretches approximately 1,600 miles.
  • The Atlas Mountains are divided into four regions.
  • The mountain range has several passes.
  • The Berber people have lived there for thousands of years.

SENEGAL RIVER

  • Flows through the talari gorges.
  • The river has two large dams across its course.
  • Downstream the river splits into two branches.
  • The river is used for limited transportation.

LAKE CHAD

  • A very large and shallow lake in Africa.
  • Provides water for more than 20 million people.
  • It borders northeastern Nigeria.
  • Some of its water comes from the Yobe river.

RED SEA

  • Nine countries share it's shoreline.
  • It is connected to the Indian Ocean.
  • The length is 1900 kilometers.
  • Average width is 280 km.

LIBYAN DESERT

  • Desert has mountains.
  • Forms the Northeastern portion of the sahara.
  • Extends into the extreme northwest of the Sudan.
  • It has very few inhabitants.
