PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CAUSE OF WAR

  • There was religious difference between the Catholics and Protestants of Germany.
  • The new leader of the holy Roman empire, Ferdinand the second, angered the Protestants because he was both catholic and foreign.
  • The Protestant began to revolt, this led many other Protestant princes took revolt against their Catholic emperors.
  • France rivalry and fear of the Habsburg.

BOHEMIAN PHASE

  • The Emperor send some emissaries to talk to the Protestant leaders of Bohemia and they end up throwing them out window
  • The Emperor sends his army to Bohemia to take care of the rebells and are taken care of.
  • The Emperor the sends his army to north to take care of the Protestant princes of the the north.

DANISH PHASE

  • Christen the fourth send in his amy to help the Protestants in the north.
  • The Catholics army continue to defeat the Danish and Protestant armies.
  • The king of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus begins to intervene in the war and is successful in help the Danish and Protestant

SWEDISH PHASE

  • The Protestants began to win thanks to the help of Sweden
  • Weakens the power of the Habsburg

FRENCH PHASE

  • The Swedish army becomes lost with out Gustavo's leadership.
  • The French enter the war and are on the Protestants side.
  • The war ends in 1648 with the Protestants being the victors.
  • The Emperor is forced to sine a peace treaty.

FERDINAND THE SECOUND

  • Born 1578 and die in 1637
  • He some what responsible for starting the 30 year in 1618
  • He lost the power of his empire in 1648 when he was sine the Peace of Westphalia

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS

  • Born in 1594 and died in1632
  • He understands how to use fire arms beter then any other generals at the time
  • He learns how to use smaller canons instead of siege guns

FREDRICK THE GREAT

  • Born in 1712 and died in 1786
  • In1740, he had his army occupy silesia, thus beginning the war of the Austrian Succession

MARIA THERESA

  • Born in 1717 and died in 1780
  • She faced years of war when she came to power

RESULTS OF THE WAR

  • The Holy Roman Empire could no longer make laws, or collect taxes, or keep an army.
  • France become a military superpower and Spain's power declines
  • Local rulers can now dictate religion
  • Prussia begins to forge the modern state of Germany, is also leads to world war 1 and world war 2
  • Advances in military technology is made
