• The group arrived on a barge
• They came to work
• At the steel company

ENGAGEMENT

• The pinkertons we're met
• On shore by the ex-workers
• Who were hostile and shot
• At the innocent new workers

WHAT HAPPENED

• Nobody knows who shot first
• After that the shooting lasted
• Most of the day but with a long pause
• Attempts at surrender were ignored
• Finally they let the pinkertons surrender

AFTERMATH

• The workers agreed to take their jobs back
• They were punished by not getting what they want
• Set an example for all workers/unions
