PATRIOT PRESENTATION

By: Dimitri Panoutsos

PATRIOT: WARFARE

  • The warfare in the Patriot was definitely dramatized but still had similarities to the revolutionary war
  • The way the movie portrayed the British fighting in gentlemen's like warfare was very realistic
  • Also the militia (minute men) were portrayed well as "farmers with pitchforks"
  • The training that was done on the militia men by the French general was accurate to real life.

REAL LIFE WARFARE

  • During the Revolutionary war British warfare consisted of Gentlemans warfare
  • This type of warfare consisted of each side taking turns shooting at each other.
  • The militia men were first to actually shoot British generals, which was previously frowned upon

WHY IT MATTERS

  • This type of warfare contributed greatly to the Revolutionary war
  • This impact on the war was basically why the colonists defeated the loyalists
  • It represents how the underdog defeated the mighty British nation because of heart and pride

LOYALISTS: PATRIOT

  • The loyalists in the patriot movie were not represented in great detail
  • There were minor scenes of the movie that had some visuals of loyalists but nothing major.
  • The main representation of the loyalists was really just the British redcoats.

LOYALISTS REAL LIFE

  • The real life loyalists consisted of many different groups of people that lived in the colonies
  • They also supported British rule in the colonies
  • After a certain period of time some loyalists became colonists and wanted independence.
  • The ones who remained loyalists had high ranked jobs like judges etc.

COLONISTS IN MOVIE

  • The movie did a good job of portraying the life it's struggling a farmer especially at the Church scene when Gabriel tries to get more men to join the cause.
  • The colonists truly were farmers with pitchforks that were defending all the property they owned and everything they lived for.
  • The movie may have over reacted a bit and dramatized some parts with Mel Gibson (being the stud he is) but the overall image was correct.
  • The overall image was how the colonists overcame the massive British Army.

COLONISTS IN REAL LIFE

  • The colonists were farmers and the common men defending their country.
  • As I said before, they truly were farmers with pitchforks defending whatever they owned.
  • These men were very unskilled when it came to warfare tactics and were truly fighting for their lives.
  • They fought using teamwork and smart tactics (and some help from the French).

REAL LIFE PEOPLE

  • Colonel Tavington (British General)
  • Nathaniel Greene (colonists general in south)
  • George Washington(mentioned numerous amount of times)
  • King George
  • General Cornwallis (British general in south) ended up losing the war.

REAL LIFE BATTLES

  • There were also real life battles mentioned in movie
  • At the very end of the movie the battle of Yorktown was portrayed
  • The other battle portrayed in the movie is the Battle of Cowpens when Mel Gibson truly puts the team on his back
