4-10 Radical Application problems

by: Daniel Rude

Applying radicals to real life

  • Used to show the relationship between two objects or things in real life

Untitled Slide

Solving this problem

  • First, you must set t=1
  • Then, you multiply 1 and 1/4 by 4 to get rid of the fraction
  • Next, you square everything to get rid of the square root
  • 4 will turn into 16=25-h so you subtract 25 from both sides giving you -9
  • Finally you multiply everything by -1 making the answer h=9

Untitled Slide

solving this problem

  • r=(3v/4pi)^1/3
  • All you do is plug in each of the numbers given, as v
  • r=(3(413)/4pi))^1/3   and  r=(3(455)/4pi))^1/3
  • When v=413, r=4.62
  • When v=455, r=4.77

Untitled Slide

solving this problem

  • The standard deviation is 15 so 15=the square root of v
  • You must get rid of the square root so square both sides
  • After doing this, you get the answer, v=225
