  • Condition which a child inherits sickle gene from the parents
  • 1- in 12 african americans are affected by the sicke cell trait
  • If both parents are carriers the risk of sickle cell increases by 50 precent

  • Reasearch and learn about the desiese
  • Prevent future diseases such as the flu

SYMPTOMS

  • Sudden weakness and neuasia
  • Confusion, visions in eyes, trouble speaking
  • Troble walking, headache, problems breathing
  • Numbness, parlyisis

Women with sickle cell
Increased risk of premature birth, and low birth weight
Sickle cell can cause fear, anxiety, depression. It is recommended to find a support group or psychiatrist

PAIN

  • Different with each person
  • Work with your doctor
  • Medication might be administered for each case

CHILD CARE

  • Frequent checkups
  • See a doctor regularly
  • Vaccines to prevent desiese such as influenza
  • Prevent silent strokes

SCILENT STROKES

  • Regular visuat to the doctor
  • Check for symtoms of stroke
  • They include swelling of hands snd feet sudden fategue and fever
  • Pain and numbness

PREVENTION OF ANEMIA

  • Genetic counsling
  • Care for future years

  • More that 2,000,000 americans the have sickle cell trait

TREATMENTS

  • Blood transfusion
  • Over the counter pain medicine
  • Heating pads
  • Rest and plenty of fluids
  • More intende pain may need to be treated in a hospital

Natural selection plays a large roll in sickle cell. Malaria cannot affect people with the sickle cell trait. It has passed on through the generations.
