Etymology

  • It means "living together, having dealings with others"
  • It also means "manner of conducting oneself in the world"
  • From Latin conversationem "act of living with"
  • Specific sense of "talk" is 1570s.
  • Synonym for "sexual intercourse"
  • Criminal conversation (adultery)
