Parvana is brave
Brave:to have strength of mind and no fear in the face of danger

QUOTE:"I'M HERE FOR MY FATHER!" She called out. Her mother looked at her through the screen over her eyes" p41

Connection:
When Parvana was brave in this part of the story, it reminded me of when I first went to youth. I was scared, but I forged on and because I went in I had a great time, had lots of fun and made some friends. So I like youth.

Quote: "I won this in an athletics competition. It means I was the fastest woman runner in all of Afghanistan." p.85

Connection: When ms.Weera showed Parvana the medal she won reminds me when I won second place in a fifteen hundred meter race last year. I felt bad because I was aiming for first place.

Parvana is hard working. Hard working is to be able to work for a long time while working with heavy loads

Quote:"This is as much as much as I made in three days last week" Parvana said. "I told you we'd make money" Shauzia said as she handed half the cash to Parvana."shall we keep digging?" " Keep digging of course." P111

Connection: when Parvana was digging up bones reminds me of when I was working for my moms friend. They had us do sniping and putting tree branches in compost bags. My brothers and I had been there for almost 3 hours, we also got paid a good amount. The work was worth it.

Maryam is caring. Caring: To care for someone and take care of them.

Quote : "It was Maryam who came over to help Parvana. At first touch of her sister's hands, Parvana flinched, thinking it was the soldiers. Maryam kept stroking her hair until Parvana realized who it was. She sat up, aching all over. She and Maryam clung to each other, trembling." P 33

Connection : When Maryam comforts Parvana it reminds me of my parents comforting me when i'm in a bad mood. That makes me feel comforted and cared for, it also makes me happy.
