What is Love?

  • Love is a deep feeling of intense affection that comes from the brain, not the heart.

What chemicals are invovled?

  • Dopamine
  • Phenylethylamine
  • Norepinephrine
  • Oxytocin
  • Vasopressin

Dopamine

  • The "Feel Good" system.
  • Its a neurochemical.
  • Makes the feeling of enjoyment, and motivates people to do certain things.

  • It affects the part of the brain that controls emotional responses and the ability to express pleasure and pain

Norepinephrine

  • Stimulates adrenaline.
  • Being released from noradrenergic neurons.
  • High levels of this reduces appetite
  • Controls emotions and stress
  • C8 H11 N O3

Phenylethylamine

  • Commonly known as the "Love Drug"
  • C8 H11N

Vasopressin

  • Antiduretic hormone that is released during long term relationships
  • C46 H65 N13 O12 S2
  • Released during bonding

Oxytocin

  • Released during bonding such as cuddling or kissing.
  • Shows attatchment.
  • C43 H66 N12 O12 S2
