Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809.

His parents were traveling actors.

His foster parents were tobacco merchants.

He attended a grammar school in Irvine.

His first published work was published in 1827.

In 1830, he entered West Point as a cadet.

John Allan, his foster father, died on March 27, 1834.

In 1835, he got an editor's job in Richmond.

He married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia, in 1835.

He became engaged to Elmira Shelton in 1849.

He died in October, 1849 in Baltimore.

Some theories of how he died were epilepsy, syphilis, and heart disease.
