PRESENTATION OUTLINE
WHY (Crista)
The reason I chose to help the homelessness was because, I believe that humanity should not be having to sleep on the side of the road, or have to earn just enough money to survive while others live in luxury.
WHY (Jordan)
The reason i chose to do this specific project is because my grandfather owns a soup kitchen and it's sad that there are tons of homeless people coming in and out of the soup kitchen all day.
WHAT WAS IT
The main goal of our project wasn't only to help people but to raise awareness for others to also help. What we did about homelessness is that we made flyers to raise awareness, and made social media accounts to reach others which we could not physically reach.
CHALLENGES
A major challenge we faced was when Jordan's grandpa became sick which is who was running the soup kitchen, since he was sick we could not volunteer at his soup kitchen, so we had to find another Soup Kitchen which we had to go during school. After getting permission from Shapiro we came to find out volunteer work was full at Caritas of Austin and didn't successfully volunteer at a soup kitchen.
DIFFERENT (Crista)
Something I personally believe I should've done differently is asking more teachers to present for their classes, and made volunteering at a soup kitchen possible.
Different (Jordan)
Something i personally think i should've done differently is to do more work making and putting the posters around the school
SUCCESS
In the end I know that our project didn't go as planned but we raised awareness by posting flyers around the school and creating social media accounts.
OVERALL
Overall our project went poorly, I'm sure we could've done more like maybe collecting money and given it to some homeless people we saw asking for money, volunteering at a soup kitchen and even presenting our project to more teachers.
WHAT'S NEXT (Crista)
We will not be continuing to run our social media accounts but throughout the summer I will make plans with friends to volunteer at Caritas of Austin or at the Food Bank & during the winter will hand out blankets for warmth.
WHAT'S NEXT (Jordan) I will be continuing to go to the soup kitchen every Sunday for the rest of the summer and take pictures.
CALL TO ACTION.
Everyone should go out and serve at local soup kitchens although you may think you're not ending homelessness you're definitely making a huge difference for that poor man or woman. Always keep a towel or blanket in your car to give to a homeless person if you see them.
