In the 1920s and 1930s the nation slid into a severe economic crisis- The Great Depression. Business activity slowed sharply.

In 1929 the United States produced goods and services worth $104 billion. In 1932 output dropped to $58 billion. What caused the collapse was, the market crash was one factor. It was not, however the only cause of the Depression.

When the market crashed many people became poor with no money and no food.
