Where did it come from?

Originated in central and Southern Asia. It was discovered growing in the wild in China, they where able to spin yarn for clothing, fishing nets, ropes and many other things but these products are referred to as hemp products .

Prior to discovery it wasn't used for medical purposes until two-thousand years later.
It was used for rheumatism, gout, malaria, and a number of other disorders. Hemp travelled to Arabia from China, and appeared in the writings of the Greek philosopher Herodote. He describes ritual use of burning hemp by the Syrian Skytes.

Why should it be Legalized?

Legalizing and regulating marijuana will bring the nation's largest cash crop under the rule of law, creating jobs and economic opportunities in the formal economy instead of the illicit market. Scarce law enforcement resources that could be better used to protect public safety would be preserved while reducing corrections and court costs. State and local governments would acquire significant new sources of tax revenue from regulating marijuana sales.

Fun Fact:
It is certainly true that Colombus’ ships were outfitted with hemp rope, and sails made from hemp cloth. The plant spread quickly in America, and at the beginning of the seventeenth century, large-scale hemp plantations proceeded in order to supply the needs of the ship and clothing industries. Marijuana is big all over the world, used for recreational, medical and industrial use, with many of different countries either already has or on the verge of legalizing the plant.
