PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Mission Statement:
Our mission statement as a company is to provide the best possible airport security by using advanced biometrics, the measurement and analysis of unique physical or behavioral characteristics to determine identity, such as an iris scanner, vein geometry, POI profiling, and undercover Air Marshals and behavior analyst.
Outline:
The biometrics we decided to use are an iris scanner, vein geometry, POI profiling, and undercover Air Marshal and behavioral analysts. When you first enter the airport the first line of defense will be facial recognition cameras that will be monitoring the entire airport. Then, while going through security, you will be asked to submit your vein geometry. Throughout the airport, undercover Air Marshals and behavior analyst will be watching for suspicious behavior. If you are recognized as a POI or exhibit suspicious behavior you will be then asked to undergo an iris scan. If your information is found on the POI list then an Air Marshal will make an arrest.
HOW VEIN GEOMETRY WORKS:
- Just like irises, no two people have the same vein geometry
- A persons finger, wrist, or palm is placed under a scanner
- A picture is taken using a near-infrafred light
- The near-infrared light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in your blood
- This causes the veins to appear black and a software creates a reference template
ACURACY
- The veins in your hand cant change causing this to be very accurate
- Possible limitations could be medical conditions regarding your veins(heart attack)
- Fairly new technology and hasnt been tested thoroughly yet
Beating the system:
It is very hard to bypass hand geometry because it is impossible to change the shape of your veins. Some people use medical excuses claiming that it wonk work for them because of their "conditions"
IRIS SCANNER
- A CCD scanner uses a near-infrared light to take a picture of the iris
- The pupil turns out black allowing the software to locate the iris
- The software recognizes the center of pupil, edge of iris, and eyelids and eyelashes
- Irises are unchanging and is a protected structure so scanning is very accurate
ACCURACY OR LIMITATIONS
- Very accurate due to the unchanging iris
- Wont work for people without irises
- Very expensive technology
- Wont work if there is movement or the person is too far from the camera
Beating the system
Hackers have found a way to "beat the system" by recreating the image of an iris to use on an iris scanner. It was believed to be a real iris 80% of the time on a standard iris scanner.
Privacy:
Many civil rights activists have been protesting both of these systems due to an invasion of privacy.
