- Face jugs are clay jars/jugs depicting a face.
- In Africa, they were used as headstones.
Place of Origin
The clay face jugs originated in Africa and then later spread to other areas of the world.
American Face Jug Use
- Face jugs entered America through the port of Charleston.
- In the Catawba Valley, North Carolina, and Georgia, they were sold in markets.
- These were used to store liquor and the scary jug would scare away kids from the substances.
