• Sir Walter Raleigh sent two Englishmen across the Atlantic Ocean
• They landed on North Carolina
• Together they planed to start a colony on Roanoke Island

The way of the Algonquins

• John White studied the Algonquins closely.
• They hunted deer and caught fish.
• Algonquins women cooked food on clay pots and served meals on wooden dishes.

The Revenge of the Colonists

• While catching fish, a colonist was killed.
• John White decided to get revenge.
• John White had made a horrible mistake,he raided the wrong tribe.
• They were the Croatoan,a group of Indians who were the colonists friends

The way back

• By then the colonists were running low on supplies.
• John went back to England for supplies.
• The weather was harsh and England and Spain were at war.
• He couldn't go back for two years.

The Lost Colonists

• John finally arrived on Roanoke Island. He couldn't find the colonies anywhere!
• He found a tree near the colony site that said CRO.
• He also found the word CROATOAN on an entrance pole.
