Why so Important?
The steam engine helped transport crops and other supplies around the world. It also helped drill water and coal out of the ground.
The first steam engine was invented in 1698. It was first invented by three British inventors and kept being developed over about a hundred year period.
The first crude steam powered machine was built by Thomas Savery of England. In 1763 James Watt a Scottish engineer improved it
