  • Harriet Tubman was born in the 1820's
  • Born in Maryland, Virginia
  • She was born to slave Ben Ross and Harriet Green
  • She was the sixth of eleven children

  • At the age of five, she was put to work in Mrs. Brodas mansion
  • She made a lot of mistakes doing her work, and was punished very frequently
  • At the age of six, she was sent to another family to learn how to weave
  • During her time with the new family, she got a disease called Measle and became sick
  • She was sent back to live with her original family

THREE IMPORTANT FACTS

  • She fought for the right for women to vote
  • She married John Tubman when she was 25, who was a free man
  • She delievered more than 300 slaves out of slavery

IMPACT ON OTHERS

  • She gave others hope that one day they would be free
  • She risked her life time and time again to help the slaves escape to freedom
  • She became the most famous and successful conductor of the underground railroad
  • She spent her entire life working to correct the injustice done against her people
