Credited with being one of the fathers of the Continental Army in teaching them the essentials of military drills, tactics, and disciplines.

Best remembered for his last words before being hanged: "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country."

PETER SALEM

Was later sold to Lawson Buckminster, who gave him his freedom to enlist in the Continental Army. Shot leader for British army at Bunker Hill.

MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE

Close friend of George Washington. Was a key figure in the French Revolution.

PATRICK HENRY

Led the opposition to the Stamp Act of 1765 and is remembered for his "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech.

FRANCIS MARION

He was a persistent adversary of the British in their occupation of South Carolina

JOHN PAUL JONES

Was a naval fighter in the Revolutionary War he is sometimes referred to as the "Father of the United States Navy"

MARY LUDWIG HAYS

During the American Revolutionary War's Battle of Monmouth, she carried pitchers of water to soldiers. After her husband collapsed during the battle, she took over the operation of his cannon.
