PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LOVE AFTER LOVE

BY: DEREK WALCOTT

STRUCTURE

  • Rhyme: No regular rhyme pattern
  • Verse: free verse, loosley iambic
  • Its a long poem; linea are also long
  • Meter: slow paced, not structured

Personification:
"at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome,"

Allusion: "Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart."

Metaphor: "you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door." the "door" that a person might greet themselves at might be the door to their soul, or the door to their mind, rather than a literal front door. (the "door" that a person might greet themselves at might be the door to their soul rather than a literal front door)

I think that this poem is about letting go of your past memories such as ex lovers and bad obstacles that you have faced in life. it is about focusing on the good things that you have achieved and looking forward in your life. it also explains how you have to learn to love yourself before you love someone else.
