Mana Island

The lighthouse became croun property in 1865 and was subsequently leased to J.F.E wright of wellington and was built in 1863

Vella family farmed sheep on Mana Island in 1886 and until 1953

Mana Island is 3km long and 0.84 squared metres

In 2009 Mana Island was chosen by the global restoration as one of the top 25 sites for ecological places

On Mana Island there is a special bird called the Takahe but sadly there are only 60 left on the island and once thought extinct
