Mating and raising young
When guinea pigs are mating they squeak loud and nip each other. When they are raising young if you touch the babies before they are 3 weeks the mother will abandon them. You also have to take the father out before the mom gives birth.

LIVING IN GROUPS OR NOT

  • Sometimes guinea pigs will
  • live in groups and sometimes
  • they live by their self, but you
  • can not have them live by their
  • self for a while and then put another in their cage.

COMMUNICATION

  • Guinea pigs communicate
  • in many different sqeaks.
  • They have seven different
  • kinds of squeaks. One is like
  • a cat which is purring.

HIBERNATION

GUINEA PIGS ARE ACTIVE THROUGH OUT THE YEAR AND DO NOT HIBERNATE.

For Beginners
When you first bring a New Guinea pig home it will feel stressed. Guinea pigs need lots of room to roam in their cage. Guinea pigs don't over eat but that is not true for my guinea pig. One guinea pig needs 4 sq ft at a minimum.
