HEART LAYERS (3)

  • Myocardium is the thickest muscle layer
  • Endocardium is the innermost layer
  • Pericardium is a membrane that covers
  • the heart

CHAMBERS (4)

  • Right atrium pumps into the right ventricle
  • Right ventricle pumps into the pulmonary artery
  • Left atrium pumps into the left ventricle
  • Left ventricle pumps into the aorta

HEART VALVES (4)

  • 2 atrioventricular, 2 semilunar
  • Pulmonary is between RV and pulmonary artery
  • Biscuspid is between the LA and LV
  • Tricuspid is between the RA and RV
  • Aortic is between LV and Aorta

PATHWAY OF BLOOD

  • Right atrium, right ventricle, pulmonary trunk
  • Pulmonary arteries, lungs, pulmonary veins
  • Left atrium, left ventricle, aorta
  • Then the rest of the body

EKG-WHAT IS IT?

  • Electrocardiogram
  • Checks for problems with the electricity
  • Of the heart
  • Helps find chest pains

CARDIAC OUTPUT-FORMULA

  • Volume of blood pumped in a ventricle
  • Formula is stroke volume x heart rate

ARTERIES VS VEINS

  • Arteries more muscular
  • Veins are closer to the skin
  • Veins flow to the heart
  • Arteries flow from the heart

PULSE-AVERAGE, WHERE?

  • Average is 60 to 100 BPM
  • Easily found in your neck or wrist

BLOOD PRESSURE- SYSTOLE/DIASTOLE?

  • Systolic is the maximum
  • Diastole is the minimum
  • Average blood pressure is 120/80

CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE-CAUSES, TREATMENTS

  • A common symptom is chest pain
  • Lifestyle change, medication, surgery
  • Caused by smoking, high cholesterol
  • Also caused by high blood pressure
