Good afternoon.

Today I am going to talk about the concept of boundary work and how this concept serves as a framework to understand the possible reasons behind the behavior of one group of ethnic Chinese with regards to their Filipino employees.

Research Question

  • How does identification with a foreign culture influence the relationship boundaries between Chinese employers and managers and Filipino employees?
  • To what degree do these boundaries take effect?
  • What are the functions, advantages and disadvantages of these boundaries?
My research question was formulated in the interest of finding out how one group's identification with a foreign culture influences how they create and maintain social boundaries.

In addition to this, the degree to which the boundaries take effect, as well as their functions are taken into consideration.

Methodology

  • Interviews
  • Observation
The methods I used in this study mainly consisted of interviews and observation.

This is a qualitative study, therefore I have decided to use interviews and observation as my main methods
