THE LIFE OF ZEYLA, THE ROCK

A FAMILY FRIENDLY ADVENTURE

It all started when Mount Saint Helens erupted. That's how I was born. My name is Zeyla by the way. After the volcano erupted the magma cooled super fast to form me. I became igneous rock. More specifically I became obsidian. I am black, glassy, and smooth.

Well for a while I was just plain ole obsidian doing my thing. Then, it happened. I realized I was slowly being broken down into small bits. I was then washed away by a river nearby. I got combined with other rocks who I didn't know. I then realized I was becoming a sedimentary rock called breccia. There was large jagged pieces of me and of the strange rock I got meshed with. It turns out he was nice. His name was Tommy. He was a rhyolite rock, before he met me.

Well the stream carried Tommy and I back to Mount Saint Helens. That was when things started heating up, literally! There was so much pressure and heat from the lava that I could not take it. Tommy and I were no longer two different rocks, we were the same rock. We had become a whole new rock called metabreccia. This metamorphic rock was unique, it could look a hundred different ways. Tommy and I just happened to look smooth and jagged. It was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw.

Just to re-cap, I was born and became an igneous rock. Next, I was carried by running water and pushed into other rocks. I was then a sedimentary rock. Finally, I went back to where I started, at Mount Saint Helens, to become a metamorphic rock.

After that, my life was kind-of boring. I sat there the same way for a very long time. Then, someone found me and put me in a museum! I have been at the museum ever since. My life has been good, they polish me weekly so I don't look dull and grimy. Everything worked out. The end.
