Reference transactions are also great opportunities to speak with patrons about privacy, but it is really important (as with any other reference interaction) to meet the patron where they are. There's no need to bring up privacy issues to a patron who clearly just wants to know what to click to get onto the library's wifi, but a patron who is signing up for a new library card or who you're helping to use OverDrive for the first time, may really want to know about privacy implications.
