“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin

Learning is not a
spectator sport.

Learning is not a spectator sport.

You’ll never “learn” if you just sit back and watch.

If you really want to learn, you have to
get in the game.

if you really want to learn, you have to get in the game.

But, there are a few rules.

But, there are a few rules to follow.

You need to
study the game.

First, you need to study the game.

You should understand the rules, regulations, and guidelines.

You must understand exactly how to play the game before you can ever participate.

Get out there
and practice.

Then, get out there and practice.

Practicing can be brutal; it can be frustrating; it can be painful.

And when you fall down, you need to get back up and keep playing.

It takes time to become an athlete.

Work with your teammates.

You need to work with your teammates.

A good teammate understands that she won’t perform best on her own.

She needs support and encouragement from her teammates.

She can only become the MVP with assistance from her team.

And get feedback
from your coach.

Finally, you need feedback from your coach.

A good coach offers advice, constructive criticism, and tips on how to become a better player.

They are there to ensure that you're always headed in the right direction.

Learning is
no different.

Learning is no different.

First, you need to
acquire information.

First, you need to acquire information. You need to process the materials through reading, listening, and watching. And you can’t rush this stage, skimming the material in a half-hearted approach. You need to digest it, understand it, and truly comprehend what you have learned.

Then you need to practice solving realistic problems.

Then, you need to practice solving realistic problems. Expect frustration, expect to feel overwhelmed, and expect to make mistakes. Many mistakes. But, you will never truly learn a thing if you don’t practice.

You need to engage
with other people.

You need to engage with other people. You should discuss, engage, and debate in order to explain what you are trying to accomplish while getting to know other unique perspectives.

Finally, you need
constructive feedback.

Finally, you need feedback to ensure that you’re on the right path. Get advice, constructive criticism, and guidance on if what you are doing is actually working.

And like an athlete,
if you continue to...

There's no
stopping you!

There's no stopping you!

So, get off the bench...

So, get off the bench...

And into the game.
