METHOD
Cesarean: Delivery of a baby through surgical incision.

PROCESS

  • Receive epiderall or spinal block & extra medicationto ensure you're completely numb.
  • Catheter inserted into your uretha to drain urine & IV is started.
  • Top section of pubic hair is shaved
  • May be given acid medication to drink before surgery as precautiinaryto nuteralize stomach acid
  • If emergency arises may recieve general anesthesia. Puts you at risk for vomiting while you're unconscious & inhailing your stomachconentsinto your lungs.

6. Given antibiotics through IV to prevent infections after operation.
7. Anesthesia will be administered and a screen will be raised above your waist so you cannot see the incision being made (You may ask the nurse to lower the screen slightly so you can see your baby being born)
8. You partner freshly altered in appropriate operating room garb, mat take a seat by the bed.

RECOVERY

  • Expect toneed help.
  • Likely to need prescription for pain killers & stool softener.
  • Vaginal discharge & bleeding diminishing.

EFFECT ON FURTURE PREGNANCIES

  • Increaced risk of stillbirth.
  • Neonatal death.
  • Infant death.
  • Admission to neonatal intensive care.
  • Small gestational age.

- Respiratory distress syndrome (preterm babies lack coating on inside of lungs)
- Bacterial sepsis (w/out organ dysfunction)
- Preteen delivery
